Here are some of the most notable data centre investments in APAC

One is a 96MW campus worth approximately USD1b to be built in Batam, Indonesia.

According to a JLL report, the surge in social media adoption drives data usage, increasing demand for enterprises and hyperscalers. Digital transformation as a cost optimisation strategy has accelerated the shift to a hybrid model of IT infrastructure.

Applications of artificial intelligence will further bolster demand with increased data usage and computing efficiency. Data centre growth in mature markets continues unabated.

Here’s more from JLL:

Sustainability has been the guiding principle while setting up new facilities. AirTrunk raised an AUD 650 mn sustainability-linked loan (SLL) in Japan that ties 100% of its debt funding to sustainability commitments.

Smaller edge data centres are emerging in satellite metros to support major national metro hubs. Enterprises are considering other hubs and edge DC markets to merge consumer demand from mobile devices. Jakarta and Mumbai are receiving strong interest from cloud providers and hyperscalers.

Latest notable DC activity:

• OVHcloud opened its first data centre location in Mumbai, India

• GDS signed a secure power capacity agreement for its Johor data centre campus with an expected capacity of 85.5MW

• AirTrunk has broken ground for its TOK2 data centre in West Tokyo with an approximate capacity of 50 MW

• Princeton Digital Group (PDG) announced plans to set up a 96 MW campus in Batam with an initial investment plan of USD 1 billion
